for angela

For Angela,

Why do people treat one another so poorly because of the color of their skin on the outside, but on the inside we are all the same. We are hurting each other, mentally, physically and emotionally because we all look different on the outside. But whats on the outside is a part of you its who you are it makes you different and unique from everyone else, that one thing you don't like about yourself is one of the things that make you, you. But people discriminate against you because of it. For Angela demonstrates some of the prejudice some First Nations people have suffered because most people were not taught how to accept others for who they are because of whats on the outside. They were not treated equally. First nations have a beautiful background and heritage. The way they viewed everything and everyone equally was one of their best traits. When Europeans came to Canada they showed them everything they knew because of their views of equality. Sadly it is also one of their worst weaknesses. The early Europeans turned on the first nations people and took power. Residential schools were opened the environment in which they were forced to live in took everything away from them because the Europeans didn't view everyone or anything the same way the First Nations people. They were not shown love shown respect or even the slightest bit of sympathy for what they were going through. They lost their language, traditions and most importantly the most valued emotion love. Once they got out of residential schools they had no were to go. They couldn't go home because they couldn't communicate with their families because they weren't allowed to talk their traditional language of their people. Some turned to drugs to try and drown their sorrow and pain. Once they were more stabilized and had a family they didn't know what to do,they did not know how to be parents or even show their children any love because they were taken away from their parents, they were slaves to the Europeans in a way and now today because of what happened back then will effect generations to come.

For Angela demonstrates the pain it has inflicted on many families because of racism and prejudice . The way the boys were treating her was just a small part of how maliciously some people are being treated. The way Ms Gordon and her daughter were being treated was nothing but real although they are fictional characters their story could not be truer. Everyone has been effected by prejudice at least once in their lives, we all know what it feels like. Prejudice hurts everyone in the end. Everyone has feelings, so why do we do it? Nothing good will ever come from it so why do we still do it can you tell me?

Kiana,
